Fledgling is the stage in a flying animal's life between hatching or birth and becoming capable of flight. Fledging is the term mostly used for birds but it can also be used for baby bats! In this blog, we answer your most asked questions about baby birds!
What's the difference between a nestling and a fledgling?
A nestling is a young bird that is still confined to the nest and fledgling is a young bird that has developed its flight feathers.
What to feeds fledgling birds eat?
Here at Really Wild Bird Food, we have created the perfect mix for fledglings, nestlings and parent birds: High Energy Fledgling Mix™. This mix comprises homegrown naked oats, premium sunflower heart chips (smaller bite-sized pieces of sunflower heart) peanuts granules, and delicious little suet pellets. Everything included in this mix is in nibble-size pieces which are highly digestible to give fledglings a real power start.
Is there anything else I can do to help fledglings?
Try to scatter High Energy Fledgling Mix™ on the ground (it wont grow!) as this may help any baby birds on the ground. Please be mindful if you have a cat or there are cats in your area.
Please see our blog below if you have found a injured baby fledgling:
