Unfortunately, the feeder had been carelessly-made, and the screws holding the plastic ring in place were at an angle, which made it impossible to insert the jar of peanut butter. Fortunately, it was easy enough to remove the screws, and then put them in properly. The birds, especially the blue and great tits, and goldfinches, seem to be very enthusiastic about using the feeder, which makes me very happy!
